Bed-raggled!!!

I think it's time for a new bed.
I have woken up this morning aching from head to toe and it's taken me forever to loosen up and get going.
We will have to go to a store I think so that I can try out different mattresses as I am very picky....well no that sounds a bit like I'm a spoiled brat which I'm not. I just need to be comfortable so it's best to go and do a try out.

Today will be a no sew day as I will be tidying and getting the house ready for the weekend. I might even cook tea for tomorrow and leave it in the fridge overnight.
Once that is all done I shall do a bit of research into products I want to use for two DIY projects I have on my to do list. One is a beautiful round table I picked up for £5. I would like to chalk paint it and use it as a coffee table in the living room. The other is a fire surround which we have had for twenty years. It needs a bit of tlc so I am going to strip it and stain it but can't decide on what colour I want to do it yet. I'm thinking oak but not sure. So far it has been pine and then white and I think I'm ready for a change.

Tomorrow DD and I are off to Derby. Last week I saw some beautiful offcuts of fabric on a stall in the market which would make beautiful clothes for the doll and they were quite cheap. DD will be searching for books to tick off her list. We didn't get much chance to look last week with having Ruby with us.
No need to plan for Sunday lunch as we have been invited to dine with Miss Doodle and her mummy. Looking forward to that.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend.
Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I used to wake full of aches and pains, then I bought a Memory foam mattress, a bit pricey but worth every penny. I have never slept better, it is now 4 years old and looks and feels brand new.

  2. I am thinking memory foam Pam but I just need to go and have a try and make sure that it doesn't make me too hot. I have my own little interior micro climate going on and I don't want to make it worse....lol!!!

  3. As a temporary measure, turn the mattress over this sometimes helps in the short term. Have a great weekend.

  4. I bought a memory foam mattress topper as our mattress was not quite knackered enough to buy a new one. Best money I ever spent. 1/2 price in dunelm

  5. Beware the shopping fairy...she sits upon your shoulder without you realising and is very persuasive! x

  6. MM.....I turn the mattress every time the sheets are changed...every 4 to 5 days but it doesn't seem to help much.

Rachel....the mattress is knackered enough to replace now and it's beyond help :(.

Jackie......I'm afraid the shopping fairy will have to stay where she is for the minute....lol....I can't do with many more mornings barely able to walk.

  7. We recently bought two new beds: a single one for the guest room and a large double for our room. The total with new headboards came to half what we paid for our house in the 1960s!
However, two points I would like to make if you are considering a new bed that we didn't consider. One, does it move easily so you can clean under and behind it? Our new bed doesn't have casters but metal 'feet' and we can't push it around and by golly, it's very, very heavy. Two, can you turn the mattress if it is one that needs turning? Our mattress isn't one that needs turning (it has a sort-of foam like topping, which makes it sound cheap, but it was far from cheap!) but even if it did need turning over (it just has to be spun around, end to end, fortnightly) you'd not be able to do it, it's far too heavy. Indeed, beds have become heavier and heavier, you need to be really strong to shift them!
It does pay to get the best bed/mattress you can afford (as with most things in life) and also quality cotton bed linen, not man-made fibre stuff. I also like feather & down duvets and good quality pillows (which should be changed at least once a year.)
Other than that, the beds we bought are good but I still have backache. That's because my spine and not our bed is showing signs of wear! Well, what does one expect as one gets older?
