Traumatised!!!

Andy and I had to go out this morning. When we go out and leave Smudge alone we are always as quick as we can be because he doesn't like being left so we were only gone for two hours.
I can't even begin to describe the mess the house was in when we got back. I have had to shampoo the carpets through four rooms. I am still shaking with the shock.
In future I think we won't be able to leave him alone at all which is going to make things quite difficult.
My poor little boy....he's never done anything quite like this and I think it has traumatised him. He won't settle down and he is trembling badly and I am really worried about him.

I'm off to give him some cuddles and see if I can settle him down.

  1. Oh no, poor Smudge, what a terrible ordeal for him and you, no wonder he's still trembling. I hope you can settle him down soon Sheila, what a worry. We don't leave Betty alone for more than 3 hours if we can help it....not because she makes a mess or wrecks the house - she doesn't - it's just that she's such a sociable dog and loves our company so much that we really don't like leaving her alone for too long. She just gets in her cage and sleeps whilst we're out (as far as we can tell!), but is so hugely pleased to see us when we get back. Give Smudge a cuddle from me too please xx

    1. Yes I think he probably was Marlene. It made me very sad to see him trembling so much but after a good wash he got lots of cuddles and recovered.

  4. Oh dear. I suppose you’ve tried getting him used to short times away that you increase gradually? Sorry, I haven’t read about him before so I don’t know his story. X

    1. Smudge is fifteen now and pretty much used to our ways but I think he has developed a severe separation anxiety as he's got older. We try to limit the time he is left alone but sometimes it's unavoidable as it was yesterday.
A little more fine tuning required I think now.

  5. Hello Smudge...Heidi here...I am a big dog, and I have had some big accidents before. When I was little I kept getting cystitis that made me wee constantly...my humans put old blankets down everywhere. Eventually I grew out of it, but then I had to go on steroids which made me wee lots. I always try to wee on a blanket or rug. Once I ate 6 bird fat balls and pebble-dashed an entire room to a height of 10 inches...no kidding...don't be too upset Smudge...you couldn't help it...my human still loves me and I regularly turn out the rubbish and eat all sorts of stuff that Mum says I shouldn't. Your Mum and Dad will still love you even if you have a bad accident. I had a smelly accident not that long ago...I went upstairs to find a blanket. Mum went a funny colour for a while, and said some words I did't quite understand...but she still loves me. Hope you feel better soon Smudge. x

    1. Hello Heidi
I'm glad it's not just me then. Mum didn't tell me off as I think she was too busy trying to stop herself passing out at the sight of two lots of wee, a pile of poop and a pile of sick that I had trod in and spread over the carpets and rugs in four rooms but once everything was cleaned up....including me....I got lots of cuddles and kisses. After that I slept all day.
I don't think they will leave me on my own again in a hurry.
Thank you for your feel better wishes Heidi.

  6. Oh Sheila, poor little Smudge,I feel for you both, BUT, on the bright sideyour carpets are now pristine and Smudge has had it affirmed that you love him regardless. Ben had an "incident" a few days ago when he was just too slow to get outside. He was mortified and it took a "2 cuppa cwtch" to get him relaxed. My carpet had a shampoo but he now steps over that spot, it is quite funny to see him do a bunny hop.

    1. Carpets are clean and Smudge has calmed down now after lots of cuddles.
I couldn't bear to see him in that state again so I think we will be planning our outings so that there is always someone in the house now.
