A Trip Down Memory Lane!!!

Morning all....I hope you haven't woken up to the grey and wet day that we have today.

After much deliberation yesterday I decided to open one of these.....

Quilt kits from Kim Porter at Worn and Washed Fabrics

I resisted opening the packs when they were first purchased and rifling through them and I am so glad that I did.
I have opened the smaller pack on the left, stroked all the fabrics, ironed them and laid out how I want them to go together.
All of the fabrics are found and restored mainly from charity shops and in the pack I have opened I can see pieces from shirts and bedding.
They have all been hot washed before being co-ordinated into colour themes and when I was ironing them I was transported by the smell to my Grandma's back room where I used to sit and watch her do the ironing.
The pinned strips are laying over a chair in the dining room and I can still smell that gorgeous smell.
I can't wait to get this one sewn together and will make start on it this afternoon.

Other stuff to do first including some food shopping and a bit of charity shop browsing. I need a couple of new books and I am also looking for a flanelette sheet to back the quilt with...preferably an old one with a blue pattern. I do have a back up plan if I can't find one but I really would like that sheet.

DD is on annual leave this week and was hoping for more gardening time but if the weather carries on like this that won't be happening..........I'll find her something to do....lol.

Right I shall go and hoof her off the sofa so we can go and get this shopping done.
Have a lovely day.

  1. I'm doing exactly the same today but using dH's shirts for a quilt top for him. I've been saving them for a few years now and thay have a bluish/beigey theme. Fleece on the back and into the caravan it will go! Catriona

    1. I would love to make a blue, grey and white shirt quilt but Andy doesn't wear shirts much and I don't get into town much in the daytime while the charity shops are open to find them there.I've been into Barnado's this morning but I came away with a plate for serving crudites and dip....won't be able to do much quilting with that...lol-x-

    1. The rain is doing the garden some good and it's a perfect day for sewing.
I love watching the rain trickling down the windows-x-

  3. Shelia I have been amazed at the weather here today, sun wind sleet snow hailstones and more wind. The bonus is I have managed to get a lot done because I haven't wanted to go out.

  5. I hope the sun shines again soon! It's been a lovely couple of days here in Michigan. I've actually had my windows open enjoying the gentle breeze clearing out the house and banishing the last of winter away.

The quilt sounds like quite a project. I look forward to seeing it come together.

  6. We had showers in the morning and in the afternoon the sun popped out but it was windy and cold. Managed to get my washing out and dry though which is always a bonus.

The blues are lovely. What a good idea to make a business from upcycling the material. Hope you find a flannelette sheet. Used to have them as a child, can't say I was over keen back then but would happily use them these days to keep my old bones warm :) xx

    1. We used to have flannelette sheets too and I loved them as the only other alternative in our house then was nylon sheets....gawd they make me feel sick just thinking about them...lol-x-

  7. I LOVE her fabric packs! Always hard choosing...but I do find them a bit pricey. Have been buying clothes at the thrift shops and using them for my own washed and worn quilts!!!!

    1. Hi Lynda
I had never heard of her before the March show I just had a look at what she did from a link on the online showguide.
What a lovely lady she is.
The kits were a tad pricey so I'll make the two up I have and then maybe do as you are doing and source some more fabric from the thrift shops-x-
