Here Comes The Weekend!!!

I really should bake more often.
Andy's little face when he saw I had made a cake when he arrived home last night was so cute.....bless him.
I have heard it said that cake baking is a scientific process.....ha, ha, ha....not in this house it ain't. I tend to add things even to a Victoria Sponge and yesterday it was three tablespoons of natural yoghurt which may well have got thrown away but it was in date so in it went.
It was the best VS I have ever made....so light and fluffy.
I was very impressed.

Back to the job list today so I will be taking up and replacing two carpet tiles and painting inside the fire surround to tidy it up a bit.
I will also be having a ferret in the salad and veg drawers to use up anything I can in a tomato based pasta sauce for the freezer.
I couldn't face going out for tea last night. We'll be going tonight so nothing to get ready for tea.

The bath arrived very early this morning so we just need to let the plumber know it's here now and ready for installing.
I am so excited to be having my bath back.

Really quite annoyed that once again we will be trapped on our estate on Sunday morning while the Ironman thing takes place. DD should be going to work but we are not allowed to use the main road at all between 8am and 1pm so she has no way of getting out and has had to ask a colleague to take her shift and she will have to do one of theirs at a later date.
We normally take Andy out for Father's Day lunch but we won't be able to go until later in the day. Andy likes to be there for 12pm while it is fairly quiet so we scrapped that and instead DD is doing a roast lamb dinner here.

So....we will be having a pretty quiet weekend.
What are you all going to be up to?

  1. I would never dream of adding anything to a recipe. I'm just so thrilled when my baking turns out OK I wouldn't chance my judgement. Although it sounds like it made for a nice cake.
I'm not surprised you're annoyed at being stuck at home on Sunday. What a nuisance, especially as you were hoping to go out for dinner. Never mind, a roast cooked by your daughter will be perfect, no crowds to deal with either. X

    1. Ha, ha, ha....I do it all the time Jules. It doesn't always work so we sometimes have to cover the mistakes with custard and call it a pudding-x-

  2. You're going to be surrounded by iron men on Sunday? ...good heavens Sheila...are you going to lock up your daughter or go out and grab one or two for yourself?!! Roast lamb sounds preferable though to a load of sweaty blokes. x

  3. When I bake I stick to recipes, if I don't and chuck it in it ends in disaster. Enjoy your weekend xx

  4. I am with you on throwing extras into a recipe, I sometimes hide a little milk in the back of the fridge as slightly sour milk helps everything to rise. Much cheaper than buying buttermilk, if you can find it. Enjoy the weekend as best you can. If you do happen to bag an iron man, keep us informed;D

    1. I love experimenting Pam. If I find I need buttermilk in a recipe I just add some lemon juice to milk and that does the trick.
I'm sure we'll have a nice weekend despite being prisoners in our own home-x-

    1. Oh we'll be OK Sue. I just find it annoying that they are allowed to close off roads where people have no other way of getting out-x-

  6. Yikes - fancy the road being closed so you can't get out! How annoying.

I haven't baked anything for a while. Hubby is supposed to be staying away from sweets and it's just been too hot to turn the oven on for anything but dinner.

We're off camping tomorrow. A week away! There should be lots of great scenery so photo ops. We have no phones or internet for a whole week. Not sure if I'm excited or I'll be going into shock.

Hope you have a good weekend

    1. It is annoying Sharon.
I think a week without the internet would be fab.....I'm just too much of a coward to switch it off in case I miss something...lol-x-

  7. How annoying not been able to get off the estate, what would happen in an emergency? The Victoria sponge sounds delicious, I am always adding or changing recipes. Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Well there are actually police stationed all along the road to make sure nobody gets out so one would hope they would stop the race for emergency vehicles-x-
