A Good Morning!!!

Trentham was lovely this morning although we didn't go into the gardens today. We have walked in them many, many times before.
We will however be going there for a picnic when DD is on annual leave next month.....weather permitting and I will take photographs when we go.
Today was more about visiting the garden centre for DD and The Works for me.
I was thrilled to find a Rose called Margaret which I want to plant in the garden in memory of my sister.....a beautiful cream tinged with a peachy pink....it's stunning.....and DD was over the moon to find some Petunias she had been after called Night Sky. She also bought a Heliotrope and some herbs.
It started to get a bit too warm for me so we decided to head for home with just a quick call into the little town to pick up some tin foil which I forgot to buy on shopping day.
Since arriving home DD has tidied up the borders and planted most of the new plants although the Rose will be going in the front garden and will be left for another day.

I picked a bad day to have the oven on but hey ho. The Jerk Chicken and sweet potatoes need to be cooked so I shall have to grin and bear it.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

  1. Sounds like a nice morning out. I love The Works. They have some great things there - especially crafty things. Sigh. Need to make sure I leave plenty of room in my suitcase next month lol.

I hate turning the oven on when it's hot but sometimes it can't be helped. Hopefully the evening will bring some relief.

    1. I bought a couple of crafty things Sharon as I have decided I want to make a few cards again....just for my own use as I do miss making them.

Oven is on and the fan is working overtime...lol-x-

  2. Iam so happy to hear about you finding the Margaret rose, it's almost as if it was waiting for you. I wonder if there is a Shelia rose? Jerk chicken is amazing.I sometimes do it with Jamaican rice and peas! I only discovered a couple of years ago it was actually rice and kidney beans and coconut milk and a few other bits and bobs,it's worth having a look on the internet for variations of the recipe.😃

    1. The rose is beautiful and I can't wait to get it properly established in the garden.
Just finished tea and that is the first time I have ever eaten Jerk chicken...it won't be the last...it was lovely.
Funnily enough DD and I were watching Diners, Drive Ins and Dives the other night and one of the restaurant owners was cooking rice and peas with coconut milk and I said I rather fancied trying it it. I'll give it a go next time we have the chicken-x-

  3. How lovely that you found a rose to celebrate your sister's life, Sheila. Have you ever considered buying a Remoska? Look on Lakeland website rather than me try to describe it-I use it to cook most things if I don't want the oven on. Quite pricey but well worth the money. It's one of the few kitchen gadgets I would replace immefiately if it broke. Catriona

    2. Move it to the top of the list! I've made soup, cooked a roast chicken, made scones, and it's excellent for roast veg which we like. Very little oil needed and it pays for itself very quickly due to the tiny amount of electricty it uses. The great advantage is not heating the kitchen We use it in our caravan too.

  4. Thrilled to hear about the rose, a lovely way of remembering and celebrating your sister. I must admit I do miss The Works, I have a shopping list for when we visit family in August.

    1. The Works at Trentham is very tiny so didn't have as big a stock of crafty bits as some I have been to. Picked up some nice bits though.
I expected to have to search a long time for the rose but am so pleased we found it today-x-

    1. I'm going to make a little area with the rose, some glass dragonflies and butterflies and if I can find one a metal 'M' for Maggie set against a backdrop of a piece of picket fence which I will paint and distress-x-

  6. Planting a rose for Maggie is a lovely thing to do Sheila.

It's raining here today which has meant strawberry picking plans will have to be put on the back burner. If only they'd been ready last week. Can you believe we were cold yesterday and put the heating on for 10 minutes! Mind you then I was roasting and had to fling the doors open haha.

Your food always sounds so delicious. Wish mine were a bit more adventurous and me for that matter :)

    Have a lovely week. xx

  7. Rain here today Suzanne....very refreshing.
I was cold last night and had to put a blanket on top of the bed throw to get my feet warm.

I must admit that last night's tea was very nice....even if I do say so myself.
