Putting Me Foot Down!!!

Normally at this time on a Sunday I would be preparing everything for a roast dinner but today I am not.
The foot went down yesterday when Andy asked for a roast beef dinner and I said I was sick of spending half my Sunday every week cooking and especially the weeks when DD has to go into work and we have to have it at tea time.
Today we are having slices of hot roast loin of pork with stuffing and apple sauce in rolls. The pork can be shoved in the oven and pretty much look after itself for a bit.
Ooooh it did feel good to get my own way for once....lol.

I have two crop tops cut out ready for sewing for me Ruby so I hope with this bit of free time to get those done today.
They are both the same fabric but I will make one plain and pretty up the other one with some lace peeking out from the bottom of the hem.
One metre of 60" wide pink broderie anglaise for £5 is making two tops....can't be bad.

I'll also probably make a start on the laundry seeing as how it is sunny and breezy this morning.

I hope the sun is shining for you today.

  2. Dear Sheila:

"slices of hot roast loin of pork with stuffing and apple sauce in rolls" sounds like a very nice substitute. I feel that unless you have actually cooked day after day you do not fully comprehend how tiresome it can become. For what it is worth your meals always sound very nice.

Hope the remainder of your Sunday was spent doing what you wanted.

    1. They were lovely Sandy....and he loved them so I think through the summer things like that will be appearing more often instead of me nearly passing out in a hot kitchen...lol.

I spent the most of the day sewing...it was fab.

  3. I only cook a roast every now and then. Today we had a veggy moussaka, and it was very tasty. I prepped it all in advance and it only took a few minutes work before it went into the oven.

    1. Unfortunately Andy is a dinosaur and Sunday lunch is not Sunday lunch unless it involves roast meat and enough pans to keep you washing up until midnight....lol.
Drives me nuts. DD and I would be so happy with something lighter these days-x-

  5. Oh I so understand the Sunday roast thing! Today I did a chicken roast dinner and the OH said the roast potatoes weren't crispy enough, not for the first time.He likes them very well done and also has different gravy to me and DS.I was hot and tired so he has now been told roast dinners are off the menu for the foreseeable and possibly life :) :) Like you Sheila I feel as if I would like to do something for me on a Sunday xx

    1. Exactly Chris.
I know I am at home all week but I cook every single day. It's nearly always a meal geared towards pleasing the meat monster and I am now at the end of my tether with it. DD and I want lighter meals that are quicker to cook and leave me with more free time on a Sunday with maybe a roast once a month or so.
If Andy had dared to criticise my roast potatoes he would have been wearing his dinner....lol-x-

  7. Happily, in our home DH cooks I do help with preparing veg altho' since breaking my arm, which after 2 years still hasn't healed, I can't peal potatoes but I can do other stuff albeit slowly. We do usually eat by 1:00pm and then pop off to the seaside for the afternoon. When your DD works in the morning could you not cook for midday and keep hers till she gets home, I did that in the past and heating the dinner in the microwave was fine. But saying that I know how you feel. On one occasion with my first husband(now ex)who hated going out with our children at the weekend, said he didn't want to do anything on the Sunday but we did have our Sunday dinner to look forward to, so with him watching after I had given the children theirs, I let his dinner slide off the plate into the bin! Then the children and I went out to the local park for the whole afternoon. I was blinging hungry as I hadn't eaten but it was worth it!

    1. Hi Chris
Any other meal I would definitely save and reheat in the microwave but I never think a Sunday roast tastes right after being reheated.
Ooooh I wish we could go to the seaside on a Sunday afternoon but living smack bang in the Midlands any seaside is over two hours away. I might suggest we do that for the whole day though one Sunday......and then I wouldn't have to cook at all...lol-x-

  8. Good for you Sheila. It's nice to have a break from the kitchen and Sunday lunch does seem to take all day for some reason. I've started doing one in the week. Have no idea why but it seems to take half the time. I do like a roast though and it's one thing Thomas will happily have a go at as well. xx
